Turtle Circle

Published June 5, 2017 by Lunapo

At a birthday party at the end of April, Witchlette was formally introduced to the Ninja Turtles.
The next day, for tv time, I put on an episode of the most recent reiteration. Witchlette has been hooked ever since. The kids take turns picking a show for tv time, and Hubby laughs that there shouldn’t be concern over whose turn because the answer will be the same. He also jokes that I’m in nerd heaven with the kids, enjoying every moment of the cartoon myself, reliving so highlights of my childhood with my kids.

Witchlette saw one episode that started her. She was struggling to get to sleep. I went into our dining room cabinet and got her my turtles, which I’ve had since I was about 7. She’s slept with them at her bedside every night since.

Nerd. Heaven.

About a week after getting the physical Turles, Witchlette made the connection that there are four Turtles and four Elements and each Turtle could be an Element. Donnie and Raphael were obvious, as Air and Fire respectively. Leo is grounded and grounding like Earth. Splinter embodies everything that is Spirit. Mikey is free flowing like the babbling brook and spontaneous like the ocean waves.

I reserved a weekend in August. All was set.

The whole ritual was written to discuss movement and meditation. I learned some basic Tai Chi to teach Witchlette so we could do it an Magick Circle.

Then, dates needed to be switched and we were now up for the first weekend in June. Which was great, because that long of anticipation was going to be rough.

I showed Witchelle the tai chi i learned and asked her to join me. I was told it was boring and weshouldn’t do it. Instead, we should do a rainbow meditation, which is what Witchellet calls a chakra meditation.

A few days before the ritual, we watched an episode where the Turles want on a spirit quest and Witchlette asked that it be incorporated into the ritual. Great idea!

She also decided she wanted more on the altar yhan just turles and asked for tutle colored flowers. One trip to the dollar store and voila! Altar decor!

The night before the ritual, there was a lot of back and forth about Leo being water because he’s blue, and taking yellow out of the chakra meditation because there’s no yellow turtle. But green can stay because their skin is green. Light blue also had to go, because there’s only one blue. Sorry, Venus.

Witchlette, knowing this was her ritual, chose Ms. D to be earth, Ms. C to be air, her grandma, who now joins us semi-regularly, to be water, and Ms. S to be spirit. She actually picked her favorite human pixie to be air and was in tears upon learning she wouldn’t be there, and adjusted Ms. C to air from fire. She then said someone with red hair has to call in fire. Luckily, L was in attendance, who is a red head, and was honored to be chosen as fire. She also solidified her playlist for the end portion of the ritual.

Witchlette decided she would like to place the turtles, one by one as they were called, onto the alter. I was not expecting her to raise them up as she did, offering them to each Element, then placing them on the alter. That piece took my breath away.

She chose not to speak during the ritual itself, but helped my guide the rainbow meditation and was a star at the dance sequence. Everyone had ribbon wands with the four Turtles colors to wave around as they danced.

Below is the ritual itself:

Earth- leo

Patience, support, guidance. As the trees hold together the soil and the plants sustain the Ecosystem, so too does Leonardo, tactical and courageous leader, the most conscientious of the four, ground and sustains the dynamic of the turtles.

Thank you Leonardo for guiding us today. In your quest, you had to learn to become a true leader. May we have the courage to be leaders ourselves.

Air- Donnie

Ingenuity, craftiness, knowledge. As the breeze carries bird song and our voices messages, so too does Donatello, scientist, inventor, engineer, and technological genius, using his intellect to solve conflicts.

Thank you Donatello for teaching us today. In your quest, you had to learn to not always rely on your mind, but also your body and be strong like the mountain reaching high into the clouds. May we be strong in body and in mind.

Fire- Raph

Passion, ferocity, strength. As the flame warms the home, but left uncontrolled can also destroy it, so too does Raphael’s fierce, sarcastic, aggressive, and intensely loyal nature bring a spark of primal energy to the team.

Thank you Raphael for inspiring us today. In your quest, you had to learn to control your anger and use it to hone your energy on the enemy. May we also channel our energies to fan the flames of our passions.

Water- Mikey

Playful, spontaneous, friendship. As the river cuts through the woods, bubbling over rocks and splashing about making new paths, so too does Michelangelo’s free-spirited, relaxed, adventurous nature remind his brothers to have fun and not take themselves too serious.

Thank you Michelangelo for playing with us today. In your quest, you had to learn to focus and keep your mind free from distractions and become still, like the forest. May we focus what is important in life and remember to work hard and play harder.

Spirit- splinter

Mysticism, unity, awareness. Just as the spark of life in each of us brings us together, so too does Hamato Yoshi, Master Splinter, bring up his adoptive turtle sons and unite them as their sensei in the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ninjutsu.

Thank you splinter for uniting us today. May we walk with balance and maintain Seishin Teki Kyoyo, Spiritual Refinement. May we always be connected: mind, body, heart.

Ok, so I know what you’re thinking. We’re gonna learn ninjutsu?!

No. We’re not. Not in the way it’s typically perceived, anyway…

While walking through the woods, Leonardo realizes he and his brothers are too caught up in modernality of t-phones, junk food, and television. He is concerned about their lost connection to nature.

Nature? Raphael exclaims. What are we? Hippies?

Well…<look around at the circle>

Donatello agrees with Leonardo: Splinter had spiritual refinement from his connection to the natural world.

Leonardo continues: the brothers, including himself, have mastered 17 of the 18 ninja skills. But they never got the first one. Seishin Teki Kyoyo (Spiritual Refinement).

They go into the woods and each complete a spiritual quest. They learn to rely on themselves but reaffirm the team is not whole without one brother. All four brothers need their father and sensei. Splinters life lost all meaning before he took in and trained his sons. They are all interconnected.

We are all interconnected.

Life is all interconnected.

Color is a very powerful representation.

Honoring the four colors of the turtles, which do not correlate to the typical alignment, and the qualities they represent, which do

Leo- Patience, support, guidance, sustenance, conscientious, grounding

Donnie- Ingenuity, craftiness, knowledge, scientist, intellect

Raph- Passion, ferocity, strength, warm, uncontrollable, destruction, sarcastic, aggressive, loyalty

Mikey- Playful, spontaneous, friendship, bubbly, free-spirited, relaxed, adventurousness, fun

Splinter- Mysticism, unity, awareness.

Let’s meditate on it, through a rainbow meditation.

<Inhale, reach down to touch your toes, feel your red light coming from your feet and reaching deep down into the earth, exhale

Inhale, stand with your hands on your hips, feel your orange light inspiring your creativity to sing, paint, dance, exhale

Inhale, place your hands on your heart, feel all the love you will ever give and will ever receive, exhale

Inhale, place your hands on your forehead, feel your blue light allowing you to see so much more than you know, allow yourself to see the unseen, exhale

Inhale, place your hands on top of your head, feel your purple light spreading upwards towards the Divine, feel your connection to Spirit, exhale>

Splinter encourages his sons to meditate before battle. They need to be clear in mind, clear in body, clear in heart.

But, they are kids and kids don’t do sitting well.

Instead, Mikey suggests dancing is a kind of meditation. He and Donnie lead a dance party to ready themselves mind, body, heart.

Everyone take a ribbon wand.

Pagan Pride Workshop One: Opening Chakras

Published September 17, 2012 by Lunapo

In the morning, the first workshop I did was on Opening your Chakras. A good 20 people came to this workshop, which was a brief discussion about Chakras, what they do, and how to work with them. Only two people were completely unfamiliar with them so I only did a short summary. I made sure to note depending on what source you use and what personal expereice you have, your third eye and crown Chakras may not be the “correct” color. For instance, I’ve never seen purple on my crown, only white. And I always see purple on my third eye, not dark blue.

Next, I guided the group through the meditation I created and use when working on my own or someone else’s Chakras. Beginning with your root Chakra, visualize a small swirling portal. Breathe deeply in and out. As you focus on it, it begins to grow and pulse. Breathe deeply again. Now red bleeds from your Chakra into the Earth, rooting you to the ground. We continued on with Sacral, Naval, Heart, Throat, and Third Eye, but this time, the color radiates outward. Lastly, we did Crown Chakra and visualized the color shooting upward.

After “unzipping”, we sat and enjoyed the moment before “re-zipping”. Starting from the top, seeing the color come back into our bodies, the Chakra reduce is size, but remain open. We then discussed our experiences: who saw white or purple on the crown. Who felt the Chakra tingle, which ones were more intense? One participant noted that he did not see his Third Eye at all. We talked about it some and he said he was thinking about purple for his third eye but saw nothing. I gave him the tip to try for dark blue next time he does the meditation. Another participant saw dark blue in her Third Eye, then saw a swirl of purple and white in her Crown.
This is the literature I gave the attendees, something to reference at home:

Crown: (purple/white) Wisdom and connection to the universe, the divine. Open: unprejudiced, aware of self and world. Underactive: limited spiritual awareness, close-mindedness. Overactive: spiritual addiction, ignoring physical needs

Third eye: (dark blue) Insight and visualization. Open: good intuition. Underactive: rely on others for thoughts, rigid thinking, easily confused. Overactive: living in a fantasy world, including hallucinations.

Throat: (light blue) Self-expression and talking. Open: easily express self. Underactive: don’t speak much, introverted or speaking too many falsehoods. Overactive: speak too much, dominating all conversations causing people to pull away.

Heart: (green) Love, kindness, affection. Open: compassionate and friendly, have many harmonious relationships. Underactive: cold and distant. Overactive: you suffocate people with your affections, driving them away. Your actions are for selfish reasons.

Solar Plexus: (yellow) Self confidence among others. Open: control and sufficient self-esteem. Underactive: passive and indecisive. Overactive: domineering and possibly aggressive.

Sacrum: (orange) Sexuality. Open: sexual feelings flow freely without being overly emotional. Open to both intimacy and lust. Underactive: you have a poker face about sex and are not open with that aspect of life. Overactive: Focusing too much on lust and not enough on intimacy.

Root: (red) Connectivity to the physical world, being in the moment and feeling at home in all locations. Open: feel grounded, stable, and secure. Feel present in the moment and connected to your body. Underactive: often feel nervous or unwanted/unwelcome in situations. Overactive: materialistic and greedy. You resist change too much.
