Theism

Polytheism. Monotheism. Athiesm. They all revolve around the belief of a deity. I am growing into a hard polytheistic, but I still have strong roots in spiritual Elemental athiesm.

I believe I have shared this before, but it beats repeating.

At a social gathering one night at CotE, B and I were talking about Witchlette and how I used Thor to help her overcome her nervous reaction to thunder storms. Over the course of one car ride, she went from panicking each time she saw lightening and/or heard thunder to seeking out lightning so she could see Thor. He shared a story of his friends’ children and how he showed them to clap and the sound they made with their hands is the same as thunder, only theirs isn’t as loud because the clouds were bigger. I had done that with Witchlette as well and shared with her the science behind thunder to parallel the Thor piece.

He, being a Celtic Druid from Ireland, then shared his theory of science and spirituality.

The Druids paid attention to the natural world and took in the natural order. They explained the natural world to their tribe. They were the first scientists, and they used spirituality to share their message. They would watch clouds gather at the mountain and the rain fall in the valley. This would happen again and again. They saw how furtile the land was due in large part to the rains. So they explained to their tribe the best place for them to settle is in the valley. There, they will have food and water and sustain. Why move? Well, I had a dream and the gods told me to move to the valley. In my dream, they said in the valley we will be fruitful.

Witchlette has been regularly getting Asgard stories at bedtime. Last night was Ottar’s ransom. A few nights ago, it was Thor versus the Midgard Serpent, where he pulls Jörmungandr into his fishing boat. That night, she explained to Hubby how Thor isn’t real and the giant snake isn’t real, they’re just stories.

I started my spiritual journey on spiritual atheism. I got a spiritual high from science and I believed, and still do, what we call science is Magick explained and what we call Magick is science not yet explained. They’re two sides of the same coin. It seems Witchlette is on the same path: she understands things from a scientific perspective but is still in awe in the beauty of it. She still says with one breath thunder is the clouds crashing back together after lightning, and in the next breath says it’s Thor. She sees it hand in hand, but as already stated that it’s just stories.

I’m glad she has this world view. I’m very grateful that she is a growing into a good person for the sake of being a good person. It seems I am raising a spiritual atheist with flecks of polytheism. Cool.

It makes me wonder what the future has in hold for her. But I’m loving every day right now.
